Leather scraps — quality offcuts and bundles for your creative projects

Our leather scraps are pieces cut from high-end hides — sourced from major luxury houses. A smart and eco-friendly way to access exceptional-quality materials at a reduced price, without having to buy a full hide. Ideal for small projects, testing, or simply getting started with leathercraft without breaking the bank.

Available in bulk by the kilo or individually for larger pieces, our scraps cover a wide range of colors, thicknesses (1.0 to 2.5 mm), and finishes — full grain, nubuck, natural. Whether you need soft scraps for lightweight leather goods or firmer pieces for small saddlery projects, you’ll find what you need here.

What can you make with leather scraps?

Leather scraps open up a very wide creative field, far beyond small projects. Here are the most common uses depending on the type of offcut:

  • Small leather goods — card holders, wallets, keychains, bracelets
  • Jewelry and accessories — earrings, necklaces, bracelets, hair clips
  • Lining and reinforcement
  • Repairs — a properly matched piece of cowhide or calfskin can be enough to repair a bag, shoe, or upholstery item.
  • Dye testing — testing a Fiebing’s color before applying it to a full hide is good practice: natural vegetable scraps are perfect for this.
  • Scrapbooking and decoration — fancy leather scraps, nubuck, or colored pieces are widely used in decorative crafts, photo albums, and DIY projects.
  • Getting started in leathercraft — scraps are the best way to begin: low material cost, total freedom to practice cutting, stitching, and dyeing techniques.

How to choose your leather scraps?

It all depends on your project. For soft leather goods (pouches, wallets), choose calf nappa scraps in 1.0 to 1.5 mm — they are thin, flexible, and easy to work with. For more structured items (rigid card holders, lightweight belts), cowhide scraps in 1.5 to 2.5 mm will provide better shape retention.

Our kilo bundles are made of pieces of varying sizes — some large enough to make a full card holder or bracelet, others perfect for small accessories or test pieces. If you need a specific size, check our cowhide leather pieces available individually, and feel free to contact us so we can measure before shipping.

Frequently asked questions about leather scraps

What sizes are the kilo leather scraps?

The scraps sold by the kilo are offcuts of varying sizes. They generally range from a few centimeters up to pieces of 20–30 cm per side, depending on the batch. If you need a guaranteed minimum size, you can contact us so we can verify the dimensions.

Are leather scraps good quality?

Yes. Our scraps come from hides sourced from major French luxury houses. They are simply cut pieces — the leather quality is identical, only the size differs. For second-grade kilo bundles, you may find more visible imperfections, mainly creases, without affecting durability.

Are leather scraps suitable for beginners?

Absolutely — in fact, they are our top recommendation for beginners. They allow you to practice basic techniques (cutting, folding, gluing, stitching, dyeing) without using a full hide. A kilo bundle provides enough material for multiple tests and one or two finished small projects. It’s the ideal entry point before investing in a full hide.
